Villa Tuscolana is located in the heart of the Natural Park of the Colline Romane (Roman Hills District), one the most beautiful green areas nearby Rome: an area that offers a fascinating journey into a landscape characterized by natural environments of great value, with beautiful parks and natural reserves, with lakes set among forests, vineyards and olive groves, in an area of just over 1000 sq. km. An area that preserves and witnesses 3000 years of history, of different cultures, of past civilizations and traditions, a unique concentration of archaeological sites with remains of temples of Roman and pre-Roman necropolis and burial monuments, cyclopean walls, amphitheaters, impressive works of hydraulic engineering and villas of the Imperial and Republican eras.  It is possible to find evidence and traces in almost every one of the small towns of Roman Hills District, such as the magnificent Hadrian's Villa in Tivoli, a universal heritage of UNESCO. The more, the District is among the most fascinating cultural areas of Rome for the extraordinary concentration of noble residences (built between the sixteenth and eighteenth century by the great Roman Families): the system “Ville Tuscolane” and baroque palaces, with the works of the greatest architects of the Renaissance and Baroque periods (like Vanvitelli, Bernini, Borromini, Vasari).  There are also churches, monasteries and abbeys, rich with frescoes, icons, mosaics and sculptures (such as the beautiful Abbey of San Nilo in Grottaferrata or the Hermitage of Camaldoli in Frascati). Outstanding are the masterpieces of figurative art with the cycles of frescoes of Villa Falconieri in Frascati, Palazzo Doria in Valmontone, Palazzo Chigi in Ariccia and Villa Grazioli in Grottaferrata and many works preserved in churches throughout the area. The area is also plenty of museum sites with valuable works (such as the beautiful mosaic of the Nile kept in the National Archaeological  Museum of Palestrina). The Roman Hills are plenty of wine cultivations, wineries and wine houses, preserved generation after generation with  passion and care aiming to improve the tradition: the characteristic grape cultivations of the area  (Malvasia, Merlot, Trebbiano, etc.) make unique the local wines known all over the world as “Frascati Wines”. Historical commemorations, cultural events, countryside festivals, flower exhibitions, concerts, events for any liking: the joy and the cheerfulness is the peculiarity of popular festivals and all other events (some having become internationally known) that animate the Colline Romane thoughout the year, season after season.
